PROJECT

Overview

The existing Building 500 Building is being reimagined into a 21st century learning space. The current Desert Learning Academy, even prior to the pandemic, incorporated distance learning and independent study into the campus model. The new 500 building will include technology to facilitate the emphasis on technology and distance learning for both student and teacher alike. The program includes the following:

  • Flexible instruction space (with operable walls for multiple scales of instruction and collaboration)
  • Teacher’s Professional and Recording center, for online instruction
  • E-Sports Lab
  • Art Lab
  • Assembly space, for local campus gatherings
  • Lunch Shelter

The E-sports space will be located off the assembly space, providing a new opportunity for the district’s growing e-sports programs to have a location for competitions. These spaces will support a rich technology ecosystem to facilitate play and performance. The structure, reimagined with the campus’ modernist roots, complements the adjacent historical buildings in both scale and materials. Outdoor spaces and a promenade create outdoor environments for learning and socialization.  Master Planning for the campus was conducted to anticipate future development at the campus entry.
