The BakerNowicki Design Studio is committed to high performance and sustainable design practices that employ simple yet effective concepts that minimize environmental impacts, reduce operating costs, and maximize healthy environments. Sustainable design is an imperative, that when properly applied, yields a more habitable, aesthetic, and cost-effective architecture. It is said, “All the really important mistakes are made on the first day.” The greatest opportunity to influence the future environment is in the initial planning phases so that quality design decisions can deliver the best solutions.

Traditionally, the decision-making process has been based on the impact to Quality, Schedule and Cost components. With a focus on sustainable strategies, design decisions can address impacts to human comfort, energy efficiency, and lifecycle costs. To better understand the cornerstones of the decision model, we introduce our clients to the benefits of sustainable planning and the criteria that ultimately measures the success of green building design.

Through our commitment to sustainable design practices, we have adopted the following principles to guide our practice:

Through our commitment to sustainable design practices, we have adopted the following principles to guide our practice:

  • Design excellence must incorporate the meeting of sustainable principles
  • Sustainability and the art of architecture and design are not mutually exclusive concepts. They coexist in all great design solutions.
  • We must expand our consideration of the community, site and space to include larger systems, resources and influences at a global scale
  • Sustainable development is that which meets present needs without compromising the needs of future generations. Therefore, we must expand our understanding of our clients/stakeholders to include the needs of future generations
